Native Arts and Crafts presents Eco Tourism~ Plant identification and folkloric uses, Traditional Island song, music and dance and Educational Walking Tours

 

Delroy Anthony, aka Ital, is a Naturalist, Environmentalist, Educator, Artisan, Craftsman and Musician

 

He is a Native of St. John and has been serving his community for the last 20 years teaching children in public and private schools throughout the territory about traditional plants, song, dance, music and crafts. Ital Anthony has presented with the Tourism Department, Friends  of  the National Park and Virgin Island Environmental Research Station as well.

 

His love and passion for tradition and culture has won him the title “VI Cultural Ambassador”.  Ital is known for his 3 part program which he has been teaching for the last 10 years at VIERS, where children and young adults from around the world come to study, reseach and learn about  the environment. Mr. Anthony educates and entertains these groups weekly -  VIERS recommended

 

He weaves the group together through teaching  about the native plants and folklore, native crafts and traditional song, dance and music. His warm and playful mannerism allows the participants to learn about their environment, have fun  and bond together. His program will always be remembered in the hearts of each participant.

 

Other offerings by Mr. Anthony are 1 - 4 hour Ethno~Botanical Hikes in which he teaches about  the traditional medicinal uses of plants. He will also share history and island culture and folklore  while traversing the hiking trails. 

 

Native Arts and Crafts presents a 3 part Cultural Program with Mr. Ital Anthony

1. presenting collected plant species, passing around, touching, smelling, learning both their Latin names and more colorful appellations by which they are known in the Caribbean. He shares both the actual and legendary medicinal properties of each plant.

 

2. Passing around native arts and crafts that are made from the plants presented ~ locust seeds, calabash, coconut, flamboyant seeds.

 

3. Teaching traditional song, dance and drumming with the group ~ very interactive and fun.

 

Anyone who has attended Mr. Anthony’s presentations walks away smiling, laughing and feeling fulfilled

2 hour presentation ~ $30.00 per person - minimum 10 people

 

Eco Hike and Tours:

Educational Walking Tours ~ Cultural ~ Historical ~  Ethno~ Botanical  (the scientific study of the traditional knowledge and customs of a people concerning plants and their medical, religious, and other uses.)

 

3 hours hikes ~ $35.00 per person  Minimum 4 people, Maximum 12 people

All hikes meet at Salt Pond Parking Lot at 8 am. (Bring or wear swim suits, hiking sneaker and plenty of water)
